Cardiff Marine Services were approached by a building contractor to produce some custom GRP mouldings. The moulds made were a parapet and a string course detail. For both types of moulding external and internal moulded corners were required.

The mouldings were for a large extension on a hotel. The customer needed the mouldings to match up exactly to the cross section of existing string course on the building. Therefore, GRP was a good choice of material as it is cost effective and easy to install, maintenance free and corrosion resistant with a life span in excess of 50 years.

It took Cardiff Marine Services five weeks to produce the plugs, moulds and 80 metres of each type of moulding along with various internal and external corners.

Boatyard Manager, Dave Freemantle commented: “Cardiff Marine Services has extensive experience with GRP mouldings in the marine industry. As the building industry starts to use more GRP, an experienced GRP boat builder is the obvious choice to turn to when looking for GRP bespoke and production mouldings.”

Contractor, James Coombs added “We’re really pleased with the work completed by The Marine Group. The bespoke GRP copings and cornice works proved a great match for the existing building we were extending. The works were completed within a tight timescale to meet a challenging build programme. Both ourselves and the client are delighted and have been very impressed with the service. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the business and will definitely look to them for GRP building material in the future.”
