Our team have been working hard over the winter months and we would like to take this opportunity to update you on the ongoing development works at Burry Port Marina.
DREDGING
The dredger will be returning to Burry Port in June, having completed some third party dredging contracts. The dredging work within the harbour is an ongoing maintenance project that we are committed to. Therefore, a new larger dredger has recently been purchased and is currently in our Cardiff boatyard undergoing fit-out works. This new dredger is being designed to have around three times the capacity of the existing dredger and is scheduled to begin work in Burry Port in late summer.
The sand excavation to improve the access in the channel approach to the marina is currently being carried out. We apologise for the inconvenience, but this work is essential and we can assure berth holders that we have been working closely with Natural Resources Wales and the contractors to ensure disruption is minimised.
MARINA MAINTENANCE
Our team are continuing to work through a planned schedule of maintenance work on the pontoons including;
regular jet washing of the pontoons
replacing broken planks
adding steps to the main bridge walkway
upgrading the electric bollards
Renovation works to the historic dock walls are being undertaken by Carmarthenshire Council and are due to commence in the autumn.
NEW FACILITIES
While we work on the plans for the former RNLI building, which we anticipate being ready to submit to the planning committee over the summer, we have arranged for a temporary toilet/shower block to be delivered to site in early June.
When we have access to the former RNLI building, ahead of the renovation work starting, we are planning to make use of the space by opening a small chandlery to stock a selection of popular items such as ropes, fenders, lifejackets, oils and antifoul. If you have ideas for items you would like stocked please speak to the Marina Office.
BURRY PORT RAFT RACE
Date for your diary: Saturday 27th July! The Burry Port Raft Race will be returning to the marina this summer. The event, raises much needed funds for both Burry Port RNLI and a children’s football academy and primary school in The Gambia.The day starts from 12pm with rafts launching at 3pm.
