Bayscape has commenced construction of their mixed use development, overlooking Cardiff Marina on the River Ely in Cardiff Bay. The ground breaking ceremony, on Tuesday 30th August 2016, marks the start of the first phase of this exciting waterfront development. The event was attended by representatives from; the developers, Bayscape; their capital partners, ICG Longbow; and the contractors BECT.

Bayscape, will see the release of a collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments. The 115 apartments will be built in two separate pavilions and represent the first phase of the highly anticipated riverside development, which will create a coveted new residential address for Cardiff. When complete, the development will also provide a waterside bar and restaurant, new landside facilities for Cardiff Marina and a suite of niche commercial units.

Award winning Rio Architects were commissioned by Bayscape to create a crisp and modern collection of marina side apartments. The apartments have been designed to present a combination of elegant and contemporary living spaces, with custom designed fitted kitchens and bathrooms. All apartments feature balconies or terraces and benefit from full-height double glazed windows to take advantage of the natural light and the stunning waterside location. A public realm with exciting landscape architecture, will create a space to enjoy outdoor life on the banks of the River Ely to complement the marina side location.

Bayscape Director Chris Odling-Smee commented “We are delighted that Bayscape has commenced construction and started the transformation of the site overlooking Cardiff Marina. The development will be a fantastic addition to the area and will create new jobs, homes, upgraded facilities for berth holders and a new public realm. Today’s ground breaking is a testament to the strong partnership Bayscape has established with our project team who have all worked extremely hard to ensure the successful commencement of the project.”

Rob Freemantle, Director of Operations at Cardiff Marina added ‘We are very excited that this project is underway. The new marina management suite and showers and toilet facilities will ensure we are providing our berth holders with first class marina services.’

Adam Hayner, Director, ICG Longbow said “We are excited to be partnering with the Cardiff Marine Group to support the development of this well-designed residential scheme in the International Sports Village.  Cardiff is positioned to be one of the strongest growth cities in the U.K. over the next decade and this type of residential project will provide the high quality accommodation needed in a fantastic lifestyle focused area of the city.”

John Eventon, Managing Director, Bect Contractors said “BECT are delighted to be part of the Bayscape team on this exciting development in Cardiff’s International Sports Village. We believe that this development will be the first of the next generation of high quality residential buildings setting new standards for waterside living within the city.”
