A spirited team of 13 employees from The Marine Group in Cardiff have been training for several months in preparation for the Cardiff Half Marathon. They’re supporting CLIC Sargent, which supported the daughter of one of the staff members through a cancer diagnosis.
The team will be lacing up their running shoes and braving the 13.1 mile course on Sunday 1 October to raise money for young lives against cancer.
James Barrett, business accountant at The Marine Group, who is co-ordinating the team, said: “We are delighted to be raising money for CLIC Sargent.
A great deal of support
“The charity offered a great deal of support to the family of a colleague while their young daughter was receiving treatment for cancer, providing them with accommodation so they could stay as a family for free during her treatment in London.
“As a company, we were inspired to give something back and support them. Throughout the year we have taken part in a number of events to raise money for this great charity culminating in the run and we would love it if the kind people of South Wales would get behind our challenge and help to raise vital funds.”
We fight tirelessly
Last year CLIC Sargent supported almost 300 children and young people with cancer, and their families from Wales.
The charity also gave around 290 grants to a value of more than £57,000 to help families deal with the financial impact of cancer.
CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager Cerys Sadler said: “When cancer strikes young lives we fight tirelessly to limit the damage it causes beyond their health.
“We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work and we can’t thank The Marine Group heroes enough for their fantastic efforts.
“The team have been raising money through various fundraising events this year including a dragon boat race, quiz nights and a summer party and the monies they have raised will make a massive difference for young people with cancer, by helping us ensure they are getting the right support they need.”
